Field Biology Courses

Science Where It Happens

Are you organizing a field course for your high school or university?  We can take the guesswork out of it and ensure your students have a safe, exceptional educational experience.  We provide free online classes leading up to your field course to prepare your students, differentiated lesson plans for every level of student, and daily instruction during the trip.

Our curriculum is built around mechanism and process โ€” not just observation. Students become conversant in ecology, geology, and evolutionary biology through structured study topics, peer-teaching, and expert-led interpretation.

A few examples of the study topics we cover

The Great Migration

From predator satiation during synchronous calving at Ndutu to the nitrogen-fixing role of 1.5 million wildebeest โ€” the world's greatest ecological process examined in detail.

๐Ÿ“ Serengeti ยท Ndutu  |  ๐Ÿ”ฌ Population Ecology

Rift Valley Tectonics

Oldoinyo Lengai's natrocarbonatite lavas, the hyperalkaline chemistry of Lake Natron, and the volcanic ash soils that drive the Great Migration โ€” geology as a living laboratory.

๐Ÿ“ Natron ยท Ngorongoro  |  ๐ŸŒ‹ Geochemistry

Human Origins

Olduvai Gorge's 2.1-million-year stratigraphic record: Australopithecus boisei, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Oldowan and Acheulean stone tools, and the pulsed climate variability hypothesis.

๐Ÿ“ Olduvai Gorge  |  ๐Ÿฆด Evolutionary Biology

African Carnivore Guild

Niche partitioning among lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena, and wild dog. Kill competition, kleptoparasitism, cooperative hunting strategies, and the scavenging vulture guild.

๐Ÿ“ Seronera ยท Ndutu  |  ๐Ÿฆ Behavioral Ecology

Elephants & Baobabs

How African elephants restructure landscapes โ€” from seed dispersal and waterhole creation to the ivory trade's imposed artificial selection for tusklessness and the mysterious baobab die-off.

๐Ÿ“ Tarangire NP  |  ๐Ÿ˜ Conservation Biology

Maasai Ecology & Culture

Traditional pastoral land tenure as sophisticated rangeland science. Maasai ethnobotanical knowledge, age-set social structure, lion conservation programs, and the Engare Sero footprint site.
